Supporters of the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) would like you to think that their bill, now moving through Congress, is the right way to prevent Internet piracy and counterfeiting. But if you look beyond the rhetoric, it’s clear that SOPA is a ticking time bomb that in fact would have the opposite effect — messing with the Internet’s addressing system in a way that could create real U.S. and international cybersecurity problems. Congress needs to deactivate this dangerous legislation before it’s too late and come up with some serious solutions that don’t put the Internet — and our nation’s security — at risk.
